The company

Pixomondo is one of the world’s leading independent providers of visual effects and virtual production. Founded in Frankfurt in 2001, the company is now headquartered in Los Angeles and has offices across the world from China to Canada. Famous for the fire-breathing dragons in Game of Thrones, the space scenes of Star Trek and the high-octane car chases in The Fast and the Furious, Pixomondo has won 17 major awards, including an Academy Award®, Emmy Awards and Visual Effects Society Awards.

The investment

Mayfair invested in Pixomondo in July 2018 to support the business in a journey of professionalisation to enable the business to benefit from the structural tailwinds in the large and rapidly expanding visual effects market. This has been driven by the expansion in content creation, especially from platforms such as Netflix, Amazon and Apple, as well as the growing reliance on visual effects as a high quality and cost-effective means of production. The investment in Pixomondo has included additional funding to support Pixomondo’s push into virtual production, where the business already has considerable capability.

Our partnership

Mayfair has supported the business in several areas including:

  • Geographic expansion, including the opening of a Montreal office in 2019.

  • Design and implementation of a range of process improvements to improve controls and drive scalability, including the implementation of a new Enterprise Resource Planning system.

  • Building a succession plan for the founder of the business and strengthening the company’s line-up of senior management.

“Pixomondo was looking for a partner to help build the systems and processes required to allow the business to scale. Not only has Mayfair provided exemplary support, they have also backed us to grow the business more aggressively by providing additional funding to support our push into virtual production.“
